SCHOLARSHIP

Organization and Guidelines:
The Atlanta SMTA Chapter announces an annual student scholarship program that is to be awarded to undergraduate and graduate-level college students. Eligible students must be members or children of members of the Atlanta SMTA Chapter, and/or local students majoring in a program of study related to the electroncs industry.The preferred course of study is to be in: Business Administration, Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Journalism, Sales/Marketing, or a related field that is representative of the SMTA organization. Majors outside these fields will also be given consideration. The scholarship award has been established to encourage and aid students in pursuing careers in fields that are in or are related to the electronics industry.

Each year scholarships will be awarded and given directly to the students to be used to supplement the cost of their higher education. The number of awards and their amounts will be determined by the scholarship committee each year.

We will be awarding several scholarships this year. Our top scholarship award, the Ron Daniels Scholarship for 2008 will be in the amount of $2,500.00

The awards will be presented to the winning students at the Atlanta SMTA Expo, held April 17, 2008.

The winning students will be asked to prepare a poster presentation. This poster is to depict the student, his/her school and course of study. This poster will be displayed by the SMTA in their booth at the Atlanta SMTA Expo in the spring of the following year.

To be considered for the award, student will be required to submit the following:

  • An application
  • Major declared
  • A one-page description of their reason for choosing their course of study and why they should be considered to receive the award
  • A recent copy of their transcript
  • Advisor’s name and contact information

Applications for consideration must be received between Jan 1 - March 1, 2008.
The winning applicants will be notified prior to the Atlanta SMTA EXPO.

The scholarship committee will consider the following criteria in the selection process:

  • Fully completed entry materials
  • Academic credentials
  • Student’s need
  • Course of study
  • Type of SMTA membership. In order of preference: Individual, Participating, Student.
